Fort Sumter Attacked!
On April 12, Fort Sumter was attacked by the Confederates. President Lincoln was sending supplies to help the troops that were there. Lincoln Sent a ship with the supplies and cleary stated that this was not an attack and if there is any firing of weapons it would be the south who shot them first. As the ship arrived the south ignored what Lincoln said and they fired on the fort for thirty four straight hours. With bullets and cannons firing back and forth nobody had died.
Lincoln wants people to know that he did not start this war. The South ignored him when he said that this was a ship for supplies and they wouldn't fire anything. On April 13, the fort was surrendered and evacuated. Therefore this is the start of the civil war. President Lincoln cant stress enough that he did not start this war and it is the south that is looking to fight.
